Wednesday, Sept. 18, NISD Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick informed Navasota High School faculty and staff that the current high school principal, Derek Bowman, would be promoted to Director of Personnel and Administrative Services for the district. Also, Mrs. Kristi Ramsey, current high school associate principal, would be named interim principal of Navasota High School. Jeff Dyer who has been the Director of Personnel for the past two years, has recently been named Assistant Superintendent of Personnel at Marshall ISD and will be leaving the district effective Nov. 4.

Bowman joined the district in 2004 and has been serving as Navasota High School principal since 2013. He also served as assistant principal at Navasota High School for two years, and two years as the Associate Principal.

Bowman earned his Superintendent Certificate from Sul Ross State University, his Master of Education degree from Prairie View A&M University and his bachelor’s in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. Derek and his wife Gwen reside in Navasota and have a daughter, Madison, who is a 2019 NHS graduate and now a freshman at Texas A&M University, and Jaxson, who is a sixth-grader at Navasota Junior High. “I am grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to continuing to serve our students and staff in this great community.” Said Bowman.

Interim principal Kristi Ramsey started her career in education 27 years ago. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1990 from Texas A&M University and obtained her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from New Mexico State University in 1992. Her first two teaching positions were with Canutillo ISD and College Station ISD. She started her career with Navasota ISD in 2000 teaching seventh grade science at Navasota Junior High. In 2011 she moved to Navasota High School serving as an instructional coach and moved into her current role of associate principal in 2014. Mrs. Ramsey and her husband, Dr. Shawn Ramsey, have called Navasota home since 1995. Both of their children, Kyle (22) and Clayton (19), graduated from Navasota High School in 2015 and 2018 respectively and both currently attend Texas A&M University.

Kristi brings a passion for instruction and learning, a growth mindset, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. She is looking forward to continuing current partnerships with students, faculty and staff, while building new partnerships with parents and the community.

“I am honored to be named interim high school principal. It is an exciting time at Navasota High School as we are currently in the planning stages for several new programs soon. I am committed to this community and dedicated to our students and staff at the high school. I look forward to this next step in my career.” said Ramsey.

Musick stated that Navasota ISD is pleased for Dyer and his new position with Marshall ISD and that the district was appreciative of all that he has done for the staff and employees during his time at Navasota.

“We are also proud to make the announcement of the promotions of Mr. Bowman and Mrs. Ramsey within the district. They have shown through both their efforts and their results, their commitment to Navasota ISD, our students, and our community as we continue to strive for excellence in every area. We thank them for their service and their willingness to step up to the next challenge and opportunity that lies ahead.” said Mu-sick.

The promotions of Bowman and Ramsey as well as the resignation of Dyer were made official with a unanimous NISD board of trustees vote during a special meeting Monday, Sept. 23.
