The Robert Raines Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) met Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Family Life Building, First Methodist Church. Approximately 25 members and guests enjoyed an excellent meal catered by Mary Lavender and were entertained by Dr. Sheronna McMahon. Several husbands of members, officially named HODARs (Husbands of Daughters of the American Revolution) were present. Gerald Purcell, HODAR of the Year, was also in attendance.

The delightful and entertaining program was presented by Dr. McMahon, concertmaster for the Con-roe Symphony Orchestra. She has extensive experience in music education as well as in performance with other symphony orchestras. Beyond her symphony activities, Sheronna is very involved with the Margaret Montgomery Chapter of DAR and currently serves as the State Chair for Conference Music. She shared her expertise as a violinist and assured the “fiddle” is, indeed, the same instrument as the violin. Taking the crowd from the violin music of the George Washington era to the present, she closed her program with the ever-popular “Orange Blossom Special.”

Following the program, Chapter business was conducted by State Regent Kathy Wells. The Robert Raines Chapter of DAR proudly recognized five women who are officially new members for 2019. Newest members, Patti Porter and Susan Boudreaux, were inducted at the September meeting. They join three other new members inducted this year, Connie Clements, Genie Smith and Charlotte Moody.
