GCLL MP softball places second

LA GRANGE - Grimes County Machine Pitch softball all stars were on roll in La Grange placing second in the Texas Little League East District tournament June 1-12.

The young sluggers (4- 2) in tournament play won four consecutive games before falling to eventual tournament champion Burleson County.

Grimes County began pool play with a 10-4 win over La Grange on June 1. Bracket play began June 4, with the Grimes County All Stars defeating Lee County 12-2 then Washington County 11-5. On June 8, GC defeated Weimer in a thrilling 14-13 slugfest.

Burleson County hand the GC girls their first loss, a 14-12 decision on June 10. The team bounced back the next day to defeat Columbus in the loser’s bracket 14-1 but lost to Burleson in the championship 11-6 on June 12.

Grimes County 7/YO Machine Pitch Baseball

The 7-year-old machine pitch baseball all-star team went 2-2 at the Texas Little League East District 13 tournament in Hempstead. The team picked up consecutive wins over Burleson County, 14-8 and Hempstead, 16-11.

GC lost the next two games to Bellville, 19-13 and Burleson, 15-14. In the 7/8-year-old MP baseball tournament in Burton, Grimes County went 0-2, falling to Sealy 15-0 and Hempstead 19-8.

International All-Star Tournament

The International All-Star tournament begins this week for several Grimes County Little League teams.

In softball, the junior girls begin play Sunday, June 19. They will play the winner of Columbus and Rice at 7 p.m. at Rice High School, 1099 Raider Drive in Altair. The winner of that game advances to the championship June 21 and the loser plays June 20. All games begin at 7 p.m.

The minor girls begin tournament play in Caldwell against Columbus June 17, at 6 p.m. All games will be played at Davidson Creek Park, 600 Davidson Creek Park. The winner plays La Grange at 7 p.m. June 18, while the loser plays the game two loser at 5 p.m. June 19.

Major girls begin tournament play June 18, against Columbus at 6 p.m. All games will be played in Giddings, 191 Raymond Street. The winner faces Burleson County June 19, at 7 p.m. The loser plays the game two loser at 5 p.m. June 19.

The 11-year-old baseball all-stars begin tournament play against Columbus June 17, at 7 p.m. in Burton. The winner advances to play the Washington County versus Bellville winner June 18, at 7 p.m. The loser plays against the game-two loser June 18, at 7 p.m.

Grimes County major baseball begins all-star play against Bellville June 17, at 8 p.m. The winner plays the La Grange versus Sealy winner June 20, at 6 p.m. The loser plays the game one loser of Twin Cities or Hempstead June 18, at 6 p.m. All games will be played at 107 N. Barron St. in Bellville.
