ANDERSON – Unofficial election results are in, and Grimes County voters re-elected Grimes County Sheriff Don Sowell with over 58% of the vote. Several other Republican races were decided while Constable Pct. 3 is going to a runoff.

“I hope we ran a good campaign,” said Sowell. “I hope our constituents will be pleased with progress that we made and the things to come. We want more things coming in the future. I appreciate all the support from all constituents. For the people I let down, I hope to gain their support in the future. I’m a sheriff for all people.”

Megan Moody Barcak will be the new attorney for Grimes County. She defeated Ashley Falco Ver Schuur 3,414 to 1,720 with 66.5% of the vote.

“It’s a long time to do a job interview but I’m proud,” stated Barcak. “I’m proud of the progress that we’ve made and of my support system that helped me get here.” To everyone that voted, Barcak said, “Thank you, and I hope to serve you well. If I didn’t gain your vote this time, I hope to gain it the next run.”

Michael Raska earned the Republican nomination for Commissioner, Pct. 3 defeating Brad Swarts, 468 to 283. He will face Democrat Barbara Walker in November.

“I feel good, but this is only half of my job,” explained Raska. “My main job is to become the commissioner of Grimes County Pct. 3. I know I’ve got a long road and a tough road come November to beat out my opponent. If I get in, I hope to serve the county with the best ability that I can.”

The race for Constable, Pct. 3 is heading to a runoff between Gary Bender and Courtney Armstead which will be decided May 28. Bender received 799 votes (44.39%) and Armstead received 522 votes (29%). Wes Male has been unseated with 479 (26.61%).

Chad Mallet retains his seat as County Commissioner, Pct. 1 with 51.47% of the vote, 895 to 844, over Dale Schaper.
