FORT WORTH- For the Urbanosky family, showing cattle is more than just a hobby, it’s a way of life and repeatedly producing champion livestock has become the result for the ranch in Plantersville.

Navasota FFA member Demi Harrington exhibited the Grand Champion Santa Gertrudis at the Ft. Worth Stock Show Jan. 25, while cousin, Landon Stem Anderson-Shiro FFA member won Champion Best of Polled with his Santa Gertrudis.

Both heifers were raised by champion breeder Blake Urbanosky, who happens to be Demi and Landon’s uncle. Blake is a champion showman in his own right having won two coveted Grand Champion titles in Fort Worth in 2000 and again in 2004.

The love for showing heifers began with Demi and Landon’s grandfather, Jerome Urbanosky who began his show career after catching a calf in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo calf scramble in 1969. Jerome showed and won Grand Champion at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1970 and won again with a different heifer in 1971.

Jerome and his wife Jane bought property in Planters-ville in 1985 establishing Urbanosky Ranch in Grimes County. Urbanosky Ranch has bred champion heifers since.
