After following the takedown of a drug cartel in Moore’s “Down Range,” fans of fictional hero Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Garrett Kohl will cheer Kohl on as he fights to preserve his family’s heritage and way of life against a powerful energy consortium in this latest thriller.

Melding of worlds

At a near standing-room-only book talk promoting “Down Range” at the Navasota Public Library this past March, Moore described the development of Kohl’s character, as a “melding of worlds.”

Moore said, “What if I take a guy who is sort of a law and order cowboy type from Texas, a DEA Special Agent and put him in the gray world of the CIA. I took my own experiences about what it’s like to be in the CIA and plopped someone down into it and let them navigate a place that doesn’t always play by the same rules as everyone else. That’s kind of how that book came about.”

The worlds needs more cowboys

While many of Moore’s and Kohl’s adventures take place across the globe, the heart of Moore’s stories is the Texas High Plains, the place the author calls home. Whether it’s because of Moore’s family ranching roots just outside Navasota or those friendships forged in the Panhandle, the cowboy and rancher has secured a special place in Moore’s heart, as evidenced in the book’s dedication.
