Navasota Hosting Freedom Festival this Friday

The City of Navasota is hosting the 4th annual Freedom Festival Friday, June 30, in historic downtown Navasota. The event will include the annual Fourth of July Parade, live music, fireworks and family fun.

The always popular Fourth of July Parade will begin at 6 p.m. at Brosig Avenue. The parade will travel west on Washington Avenue to 9th Street. Participation in the parade is free and does not require registration. Participants may begin lining up at 5 p.m. on Brosig Avenue.

Live music from the Texas Unlimited Band will be on the stage outside of Navasota City Hall beginning at 7 p.m. and vendors will be onsite for food and beverage purchase. Children’s activities will also be available including face painting, and waterslides. Grimes County Cornhole will host a tournament on the grounds of city hall during the event. Warm up starts at 5:30 p.m. and bags will fly at 6:30 p.m.

A Navasota Celebrity Dunking Booth will also be held on the grounds with all funds going toward the City of Navasota Parks Fund to assist in future amenities such as an accessibility playground and splash pad. The cost is $5 per ball or 3 balls for $10.

Freedom Fest will conclude with fireworks at 9:30 p.m. at Brule Field. Fireworks can be viewed throughout town and in downtown Navasota. Spectators are invited to stay downtown following the festivities or can begin arriving at Brule Field at 8 p.m. to observe.

This is a free, family- friendly event provided by the City of Navasota. As you gear up for the 4th of July celebrations, the City of Navasota would like to remind residents that the sale or discharge of fireworks are not allowed within City limits. This is especially important as we are currently in a drought and under a burn ban.

Freedom Fest Parade road closures

Participants will depart from Brosig Avenue and travel west on Washington Ave at 6 p.m. The parade will proceed downtown Navasota to 9th street.

Street closures for the parade will begin at 5 p.m. and will immediately end following the parade route around 7 p.m. The following Washington Avenue intersections will be closed during this timeframe.

• Leon Street; Wood Street; S Brewer Street; Church Street; Nolan Street; Millican Street; Lasalle Street; Farquhar Street; Railroad Street; 9th Street; 10th Street; Washington Avenue will be completely closed from Brosig Avenue to 9th Street.

Navasota Police Department will reroute Hwy 105 traffic via the truck route on FM 379.

Freedom Fest event road closures

The following streets will be closed starting at 4 p.m. and ending when the fireworks have finished. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. There will be caution tape set around the fireworks site. You cannot enter past the caution tape. Please follow Navasota Police and Fire Department safety protocols.

• E McAlpine from LaSalle to Farquhar;

• Part of Farquhar St from McAlpine to Holland Street;

• Brule Street from Milican Street to Stadium Drive;

Important reminder

As you gear up for 4th of July celebrations, the City of Navasota reminds residents that the sale or discharge of fireworks are not allowed within City limits. This is especially important as we are currently in a drought and under a burn ban.
