Grimes County commissioners held a Special Meeting Monday, Aug. 26, and approved a proposed tax rate of $0.530261 per $100 valuation for 2019. The total taxable value of property in Grimes County is approximately $2,844,863,890.00 and represents a 12.06% increase in taxable value over 2018.

The effective rate, the rate that would bring in the same amount of revenue from the same number of properties as the previous year, is $0.485267 per $100 valuation. The rollback rate, the rate at which citizens may petition for an election on the tax increase, is $0.538755 per $100 valuation.

Grimes County commissioners have not increased or decreased the tax rate since 2010 when the court approved a rate decrease from $0.542800 per $100 valuation to the current $0.530261.

Public hearings on the proposed tax rate are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 9 a.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8:45 a.m. The hearings will be held in the Grimes County Annex Building, 114 W. Buffington Avenue in Anderson.
