Rex Covington, “The Lone Star Rider,” is hosting a fundraiser at Classic Rock Coffee Co & Kitchen in downtown Navasota, Saturday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. Twenty percent of sales that day will be donated to the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

In 2003, Rex’s son, Chris Covington was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Chris was tragically killed in a fiery car crash in 2015 when he blacked out behind the wheel of his vehicle due to low sugar.

“This has been heavy on my mind, was there something that I could have done to prevent that from happening,” Rex questioned. “I came up with many scenarios, but there was really nothing I could have done to prevent my son from dying.”

Rex had a dream the second week of Jan. 2018, where he was riding his motorcycle across the country to raise $90,000 to support diabetes research. The dream is becoming a reality as he partnered with ADA to “Ride For A Cure.” Now he travels country-wide to spread awareness and raise money to help prevent the same fate his son suffered happening to someone else’s child.
