The Miller Insurance Agency hosted the Small Business Roundtable held Feb. 10 and sponored by the. NFI B. (L-R) Ron Mueller, John Patout, T1m Wilson, Bill M1ller, Conme Clements, Bert Miller, Rep. Kyle Kacal and Steve Scheve.

A number of small-business owners met with District 12 State Representative Kyle Kacal Thursday, Feb. 10, to discuss issues, legislative and otherwise, impacting their operations. The event was hosted by the Miller Insurance Agency in Navasota and sponsored by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), an organization which advocates on behalf of America’s small and independent business owners in Washington, D.C. and in each state.

Topics included supply chain issues, the impact of inflation on insurance commissions, the Texas Department of Agriculture and possible solutions for the feral hog problem, and the status of high-speed rail in the Brazos Valley.

Of concern to several small-business owners was the labor shortage and having to compete with big-box retailers paying

$18-$20 an hour for unskilled labor or the lack of motivation to work at all.

Responding to questions about what the Texas House of Representative will look March 2, Kacal proposed Republicans will pick up a few seats from the March 1 Primary but added there “needs to be more business-friendly legislation.”
