Lorraine Dorothea Merdian Allphin, 87, of Plantersville, died Friday morning, January 8, 2021, at Golden Creek Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Navasota.

Calling hours took place from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2021, under the pavilion at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 8227 CR Road 205 at FM 1774, in Plantersville with Rev. Edward C. Kucera, Jr. as the celebrant. The rite of committal will follow in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be David “Rookie” Smith, Braden Smith, Craig Phillips, Gary Phillips, Kevin Phillips, Bobby Joe Green, Shane Johnson, Clayton Allphin and Joseph Allphin.

Lorraine was born January 13, 1933 in Plantersville to Martin M. and Annie Winkler Merdian. She attended school in Magnolia and later transferred to

Navasota where she graduated. A lifelong resident of Plantersville and member St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lorraine was devoted to her family and friends.

She was a talented sewer and baker and used her talents generously to her church and community. Lorraine will be remembered for her many champion trophies throughout the years for her baked goods, handmade dolls, and custom sewing. She donated these to all the local fundraisers, and everyone knew of her cakes for the auctions.

During her life she was very active with her husband, Ford Allphin, and children in the local county fairs

with projects and activities. Lorraine also judged at both the Grimes County Fair and the Washington County fair with the Sewing, Food Preservation and Baked Goods competitions.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ford and son Wayne Allphin.

Survivors include her sons, Robbie Allphin and wife Kim and Joel Allphin and wife Donna, all of Plantersville; sisters, Ruth B. Phillips of Savannah, TN and Esther Brewer and husband Charles of Navasota; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a great number of friends.
