Class reunions can be great times. Recently I had my 50th high school class reunion. Now, Michael Kurtin celebrated a 50th class reunion, but his was a grade school class reunion. He said it was fantastic. Counting the students who are no longer living, the turnout was almost 100 percent. The classmate traveling the furthest was a Busa, originally from Grimes County, but now lives in Tennessee. Out of this grade school class, four members settled in Grimes County and Whitehall was fortunate to get Mike.

Mike was unable to attend his nephew’s wedding in Nebraska, even though the entire family went for the celebration. I guess he also missed his Polish friends this weekend, but I had the opportunity to see them at the Whiskey Tango. They came to check out the Queen of Hearts game, which is still going strong.

I want to apologize that I forgot to include Ms. Pauline Kasper in the prayer list last week. She had another hospital stay for several days but has returned home. She indicated that she is feeling better.

The Courtney United Methodist Church will celebrate their 129th homecoming Oct. 13 beginning at 11 a.m. The invitation is extended to everyone to enjoy fellowship on this day. There will be a meal following with meats and drinks being provided. All they ask is that you bring a dish of your choice to share.

Don’t forget; Salem Lutheran Ladies Circle is collecting socks for the nursing homes. If you are interested in donating these items, please feel free to call me and I will help make arrangements for collecting. Thank you.

The Grimes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4006 and Auxiliary have several upcoming events to include the NHS Football Mentor Program, Veteran’s Day celebration Nov. 9, and the 75th anniversary celebration Jan. 11, 2020. The Auxiliary is working alongside the Post with all these events. Please mark these dates on your calendar!

Sonshine Sisters somewhat like the postal workers, come rain or shine, we will gather for the dominoes. We welcomed Mrs. Beth McGinty and Sandra Lazrine our new Whitehall returnee to our game. We had a wonderful day of fellowship. Our group still encourages more visitors to come and join with us.

The Courtney-Whitehall 4H group is still selling nuts. If you plan on baking for the holidays, give them a call, 979-219-0579.

Grimes VFW Post 4006 met for their monthly meal and business meeting Thursday. The formal inspection by the newly elected District 17 Commander and Auxiliary President was also on the agenda. The inspection turned out very good. The president was very excited about the museum, our meeting structure and the enthusiasm of our very small group. Thanks to all the people who continue to work diligently to support the veterans of our county, state and country.

Our sick and homebound friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Mary Bauer, Lillian Shimshack, Albin Finke, Rosa Finke, Lois Bell, Rickey Bin-ford, Leon Gorney, Doug Taylor, Garry Wise, Kathy Cave Wells, Glenn Binder and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add these friends to your prayer list.
