During my lifetime, I’ve reached a lot of milestones on the way to the tombstone. For instance, walking, talking, feeding myself, going from diapers to big girl panties, getting my driver’s license, graduation, marriage, babies and work accomplishments. Some of those milestones were really great and cause for celebration but at a certain point in the journey it’s like someone hits rewind. Your kids take your keys, your underwear comes from a box again and you’re babbling in your geriatric highchair.

Lt. Gov Dan Patrick joined with the world’s largest investment firm to pitch investors on building natural gas power plants in Texas at a summit held last week in Houston. Patrick and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink shared the stage as they attempted to persuade investors to take advantage of $10 billion in incentives and bonuses provided by the state after voters approved a constitutional amendment last November, kut.org reported.

I’m sure many of you out there have fond memories of your grandparents. Here’s some of mine. First and foremost, and I speak on good authority here when I say that my grandparents were the model for all other grandparents to come. Well, it sure seemed that way to me when I was younger anyway. In truth, they never said an unkind word to each other, or toward anyone else for that matter. Model citizens, model Christians, model human beings — that’s what I picked up on at a very young age.

As often as possible, I love to attend Rattler sporting events. A few weeks ago, I attended the boys varsity basketball game and noticed a man I had seen a couple of times before. He was dressed in athletic clothes and appeared to be a coach. I don’t know everyone, so I thought he may very well be one of our coaches. Later during the game, my friend Trisha Harris asked if I knew who he was because she had been wondering and someone else had asked her as well. Those of us who have lived in Navasota for years usually know everyone, so we were all super curious as to who this guy that we didn’t know was! At that point, Trisha’s husband, Jim, heard our conversation and asked if we wanted him to go ask the man who he was. We giggled and then told him yes, please go! We watched as he walked over and spoke with him. Jim later returned with the man in tow and introduced us to Jay Jansen.
