NISD begins Summer Feeding Program

Congratulations to all Grimes County graduates. Congratulations to my great nephews Derrick and Dominique Johnson and my great niece Jayden Powell on their accomplishments.

Navasota ISD will begin the Summer Feeding Program June 1 and run through July 17. Meals will be distributed Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. till noon at John C. Webb Elementary School in Navasota. Grab and Go breakfast and lunch will be available to all students ages 0-18. Students will need to be present to receive the meals.

First United Methodist Church, 616 Holland Street in Navasota is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive June 9, 11, and 13 from 11:30 a.m. till 5:30 p.m.

St Mary’s Catholic Church, Gabriel’s Project is sponsoring a June Blessings Babies Collection for diapers of all sizes, infant socks and bottles. Drop off can be made in church foyer or at Gabriel’s Project room by the barn. If you are pregnant or have a newborn and need Gabriel Project assistance call 936-894-2223. Thanks in advance.

The City of Navasota will host the Navasota Freedom Festival Saturday, July 4, from 11 a.m. till 9:30 p.m. The parade will begin at the Navasota Center and finish in downtown. Plenty of activities for the entire family will be available downtown.

The Grimes County Clerk’s Office has resumed operations with temporary hours from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. till 4 p.m. You will need to make an appointment for a marriage license. Only two customers will be allowed at a time. Customers are asked to wear face protection and use hand sanitizer when entering the building. Please be patient with them and thanks in advance.

Texas Health and Human Services Commission has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide more than $1 billion in food benefits through the federal Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Program to families with children that temporarily lost access to free or discounted school meals due to COVID-19.

Grimes County, do what you must to protect yourself during this pandemic. The President stated he will not shut down again. So, it’s up to us to use every precaution to protect ourselves, family, friends, neighbors, etc. during this pandemic. Please keep praying for all.

Due to COVID-19, IRS has extended the filing of federal taxes deadline until July 15, 2020.

Texas Renaissance Festival is accepting applications for 25 new vendors and attractions. Applicants are asked to send a complete business proposal, photos, or samples of their merchandise, art, demonstration piece to vendor@ or access the vendor application online.
