During the Evergreen Baptist Church Vacation Bible School that concluded Wednesday, July 20, a special offering was collected each day. The offering is for Zach and Nikki Dehaven and their children Samuel and Hezekiah, who missionaries in Cairo, Egypt. There was a competition between the boys and girls to see who could collect more – the girls won. Last year the boys won. The children raised approximately $600 total. Someone matched the amount which doubled the offering. I am sure the family will make good use of the money. Children at VBS also enjoyed snow cones and a water slide.

Bedias Masonic Lodge No 651 held their installation of officers Saturday, July 23, at their lodge hall with a full hose of members and visitors. New Worshipful Master, Larry Lynch, was among those installed. Following the event, a chicken fried steak meal with all the trimmings was served as well as a sheet cake. It was enjoyed by all.

I’m sure everyone is aware that school resumes for Iola ISD students Wednesday, Aug. 17. I wonder who will be happier, the parents or students.

There was a guest speaker at Evergreen Baptist Church July 24. Paul Reynolds brought an amazing story of faith and showed us how God can restore brokenness and chaos using ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

It is still a way off, but Evergreen Baptist Church is having a Back to School Birthday Bash Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 6:30 - 8 p.m. This will be fun for the entire family with a food truck, Kona Ice snow cones and plenty of fun activities scheduled for all ages. Some of the items are free while others may be purchased.

The monthly meeting of Iola North Zulch No 458 was held at Pyramid Masonic Lodge in North Zulch Monday, July 25, with a good number in attendance. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. Several members were absent due to illness. A variety of business was taken care of and acted upon.

I saw the result of the fire on FM 39 between Cross and North Zulch that broke out last week. I am told there were fires this week as well. Just keep praying for rain. That would really help us.
