Fair kids need support

It is nice to feel like we are finally working toward getting back to some type of normal life. Although it’s not what we are used to, it’s still better than what it was a month ago. On Monday, May 25, Don’s mom, JoAnn Sowell turned 84. Being as she is a resident of Navasota Nursing and Rehab and all nursing homes are still on “lock down,” we have not been able to visit her since mid-March. Employee Mary Mable arranged a window visit for us with her that day. So, Don and I and Joe and Denise Shead got to see her precious smiling face for the first time in months, and she was just as beautiful as always. Our family would like to express our appreciation and a big thank you to Mary Mable for fixing her hair and painting her nails that morning. She looked as if she felt like a queen. JoAnn has always been a big “hugger” so that was the hardest part not being able to give or get a hug.

The Grimes County Fair has begun but there is nothing usual about this year. Everything is totally different, but the best part is the kids are getting to show their animals and home economic projects they have been working on so hard. The premium sale will take place Thursday, June 4 beginning at 5 p.m. with a dinner followed by the sale at the Expo Center in Navasota. The freezer sale is set for Friday, June 5 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Please consider supporting these kids as it’s been an “out of the ordinary” road for them this year.

The Anderson Food Pantry will be open on Thursday, June 4 from 9 a.m. until noon and later in the day from 5-7 p.m. All Grimes County residents are eligible to participate. Thanks so much to this organization who helps those in need especially during these trying times we are living in today.

The St. Stanislaus bazaar is always set for the second Sunday of October and I run Babusha’s Porch which consists mainly of homemade and handmade items. Once again, my jelly makers are looking for plums. If you have plums you could donate, please call me at 936-870-6842. It will be much appreciated.
