Fish Fry Fundraiser Feb. 22

Upcoming events in the community include the annual fish fry fundraiser for Evergreen Baptist Church Saturday, Feb. 22, to help send the Evergreen children to church camp this summer. The money raised will help in this effort. It will be held at the Iola Volunteer Fire Department beginning at 5 p.m. There will also be a silent auction including a variety of items including baked goods. Mark your calendars for this important event. I hope everyone will try to come out and help support the children of Evergreen Baptist Church.
The monthly meeting of the Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No 17 was held at their lodge hall in Anderson. The meal was enjoyed by all in attendance. The meeting was held afterward in which a variety of business was discussed and acted upon.
At the close of the meeting a special presentation was made with an award being given to Ross Allen Jarvis for being a member for 50 years. It was in the old lodge building on Main Street that he was made a Master Mason. His son John Jarvis was present for the occasion.
It was announced that lodge secretary David Moore will be awarded the Perfect Ashlar award for his long service to the lodge. This will take place at the lodge Friday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal. All are welcome to attend.
Guess that everyone is aware that Sunday, Feb. 2, was Groundhog Day. He did not see his shadow so that means that winter is almost over. Hope that is true.
The annual fundraiser for the Iola Volunteer Fire Department is next month. It will be Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13, and 14, at the Iola VFD. Make plans to attend and help support our fire department. Help them so they can support all the residents in our area.
