Father’s Day is Sunday, June 18. Don and I have both lost our fathers but have so many sweet memories of them. They were both hard working men all their lives. My dad, Frank Hoffart, ran his grocery store in Dobbin (Hoffart’s) for 54 years and Don’s dad, John Sowell, ran a bread route for Mrs. Baird’s for 47 years before retiring. They were definitely not job-hoppers. Back in the day, when you got a job, you stuck with it through thick and thin. You rarely find that in today’s generation. When children would come into the grocery store, daddy would let them come behind the counter and pick out candy they wanted. Don’s mom had a daycare in her home and when John would come home from his route, he would let the kids pick out Honey Buns, donuts, etc. To this day we both have recipients of these delicious treats (who are now adults) tell us they still remember our dads and those days when they were children. We were so blessed to have wonderful fathers that are still in our hearts every day.

On June 3 Matthew’s ordination to the Order of the Priesthood took place at the Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral in Houston. On Sunday, June 11, Fr. Matthew returned to St. Stanislaus to celebrate his first Mass. Congratulations to this sweet man.
