Don and I just returned from the Sheriff’s Association of Texas’ 143rd Annual Training Conference and Expo in San Antonio. Don’s Chief Deputy Todd Greene and wife Cheli also were in attendance representing Grimes County. While the Sheriffs and other law enforcement attended training classes, the wives get together to visit. There were lots of new Sheriffs, so there were many new wives us old timers got to meet and know. They have events for the youth also, so once again we took our granddaughter Abbygail Branch and our great niece Kaytryn Bankston. They went to the Tower of the Americas, the Natural Bridge Caverns, Fiesta Texas and the Waterpark. As usual we all had a good time but were ready to get home and sleep in our own beds!

Our neighbor’s daughter, Andrea Merola, was back in the country this weekend before she returns to Madrid, Spain on Aug. 22. I took her to College Station and showed her around Texas A&M, the famous Dixie Chicken and the George Bush Library and Museum. One of the items on her bucket list was to attend a cattle auction, so Saturday afternoon I took her to Navasota Livestock auction barn. She enjoyed it so much, and I had a hard time getting her to leave. She said she could’ve stayed and watched the auction all day long!

Longtime sweethearts Austin Derrett, son of Darren and Chantel Derrett, and Caitlan Rabun, daughter of Scott and Tammy Rabun, were married Friday, Aug. 6, at The Farmhouse in Dobbin. A dinner and dance reception followed. Austin and Caitlan are honeymooning in Cancun and Riviera Maya. This sweet couple will make their home in the Plantersville area.
