Stagecoach Saturday at the Fanthorp Inn in Anderson is set for Saturday, April 13. Tours of the Historic Inn will be from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and the stagecoach rides will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. For more information, call 936-878-2214, ext. 224.
•The Grimes County Mobile Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, April 11, at the Expo Center in Navasota. All Grimes County residents are eligible to participate with proof of residency.
This past Saturday the dedication and unveiling of the World War I Monument, donated by the Robert Raines Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, took place at Historic Anderson Park. The Monument honors more than 1,200 veterans, who had served from Grimes County in 1917-1918 in what has been referred to as the Great War. A standing-room only crowd attended the reception held at the Anderson Methodist Church Family Room and the unveiling ceremony in the park that was conducted by Kathy Wells, Regent of the Robert Raines DAR Chapter. Among those attending were several DAR state officers, as well as U. S. Representative Kevin Brady and Grimes County Judge Joe Fauth III, as well as Texas A&M buglers. Stop by and take a look at this beautiful monument.
•The Washington on the Brazos State Park has announced it will hold its second annual Farmer’s Market under the oaks at the visitors’ center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every third Saturday beginning April 20 through July. There will be an August break and then resume from September through November. The opening April 20 market will feature a 1900s Church Wagon serving lunch.
•The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Relay For Life Team is participating in the canned food drive. Please consider donating canned foods to help “feed the community” and “knock cancer off the board!” A drop off box for the food drive is located in the lobby of the sheriff’s office until April 22.
