Western chic is the theme of the 15th Annual Reagan Dinner, Saturday, Feb. 13, hosted by the Grimes County Republican Party. Featured speaker for “A Night at the Ranch” is U.S. Congressman and former Navy SEAL officer, Dan Crenshaw.

About the speaker

Crenshaw, a sixth generation Texan, knew from an early age that he wanted to serve his country with the Navy SEALS. Crenshaw deployed overseas five times, but it was on his third deployment in 2012 that his life changed forever. After six months of combat operations, he was hit by an improvised explosive device blast during a mission in Helman province, Afghanistan. He was evacuated and

awoke from his medically induced coma learning his right eye had been destroyed in the blast and his left eye was badly damaged. He was totally blind, and doctors did not believe he would ever see again.

Crenshaw underwent several difficult surgeries, and in what was considered a miracle by the head surgeon, he eventually regained sight in his left eye. Crenshaw’s commitment to his country never wavered and he deployed twice more before medically retiring as a decorated Lieutenant Commander in 2016 after serving 10 years with the SEALS.

After completing his master’s in Public Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Crenshaw returned to Houston just as it was hit by Hurricane Harvey. He volunteered in his Katy community, helping his neighbors recover from the devastation, and it was the grit and determination of his fellow citizens that inspired him to run for public office. In November 2018, Crenshaw was elected to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas’ 2nd Congressional District which includes Katy, Spring and Kingwood.
