Over 300 children will be riding into the holiday season on new wheels thanks to the Men Making Moves inaugural Christmas Bike Giveaway at Navasota High School Saturday, Dec. 10.

“The event was awesome,” explained Earnest Jefferson, one of the Men Making Moves founders. “Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children and their parents when their ticket number was called is a priceless memory.”

The organization distributed 300 bicycles, but their focus has shifted to the 253 children who were left without a bike. “I am working closely now with some of the donors and the plan is to ensure those children receive a bike,” explained Jefferson. “If all goes well, we should be able to begin ordering bikes this week.”

In the first year of the event, Jefferson said the turnout was larger than anyone could have predicted. “We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout, especially with it being our first year. Next year will be even bigger. Our goal is to give away at least 500 bikes.”

In addition to the bike distribution, there were also free snow cones, hot dogs and more. Jefferson said none of this would have been possible without generous sponsors. “I want to give special thanks to all our sponsors who made this event a great success,” said Jefferson.
