Funeral Services for Fred Douglas (F.D.) Calhoun will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Greater First Baptist Church, 904 W. Johnson Street, in Anderson. Rev. Hopie Solomon will be the eulogist. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Burial will follow at Berryman Cemetery in Anderson.

Fred Douglas (F.D.) Calhoun, 87, of Anderson, Texas, departed this Earthly Life on July 16, 2022 at his home in Anderson. He was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and close family.

F.D. was born March 9, 1935 in Anderson, Grimes County, Texas to the late William Henry Calhoun and Nancy Lue Roan Calhoun. He grew up in Anderson and graduated from Alex S. Terrell Elementary School in Anderson and George W. Carver High School in Navasota.

F.D. developed the love for horses and cows at an early age and was given the opportunity to work for several ranches and individual cattlemen far and near. He had a real keen eye and a talent for judging and knowing cattle.

F.D. was the First May or for the City of Anderson, Texas.

F.D. united with McKenzie Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age and remained until death. He held several offices in the church. He also had a scholarship fund for inspiring youth who wanted to further their education.

F.D. was united in Holy Matrimony to Georgie Mae Bookman for 53 years. To this union two girls and two boys were born. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Georgia Mae Bookman

Calhoun; son, Douglas Leon Calhoun; grandson, Dedrick Calhoun; parents, William Henry Calhoun Sr., and Nancy Lue Roan Calhoun; sisters, Martha Ann and Zola Mae; brothers, William H. Jr., Paul, Rankin, George, and Jim mie; sisters-in-law, Earleen, Joan, Rosie Mae, Clarise, Edreen, Trudie Lee, Kate and Delores; and brothers-in-law, S.T., M.T., Jim, Henry, Ray and Melvin.

F.D. is survived by his loving children, Zola Bryant (Floyd), Freddie Henson and Terry Lynn (Emma); daughter-in-law, Jackie Calhoun; sister, Bessie White; brother, Marshall Calhoun (Rosie); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Calhoun, Lillie Bookman and Barbara Bookman; brother-in-law, Randil O. Taylor; brother from another mother, Bill Bay (Lois); 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; personal friends, to name a few, The Beckers, Hursts, Bucanans, Fullers, Parkers, Nibletts, Smiths, Greenwoods, Kotts Cafe, Briars, Kennards, Boggess, Sowells, Shallenes, Butards, late Ben Hansen, late Waymon Smith, late Jake Howard, late Harold Trant, and the list goes on; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Home and Chapel, 509 South Baylor, in Brenham.
