JEWEL MAXEY 1932 - 2020

Jewel Alene Brooks Maxey, 87, of Navasota, died Friday evening, August 28, 2020, at Brazos Valley Hospice Inpatient Facility in Bryan, TX with her family by her side.

Calling hours will be held Friday, September 4, 2020, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and the wearing of mask will be required. A celebration of her life for the immediate family only will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Cawthon, Texas with Pastor Donald D. Maxey officiating. Interment will follow in the Scott Cemetery in Millican.

Serving as pallbearers are Lyman, Michael, Patrick, Marion, Paul and John Maxey. Honorary Pallbearers are Anthony, Lawrence, Ebba, Albert and James Maxey.

Jewel was born Sunday, October 23, 1932 in Clay, Texas to Booker T. and Leola J. Brooks. She received her education in the Brazos and Grimes County Public Schools. During her life she held memberships in the Rock West Baptist Church at Allen Farm under the leadership of Rev. McClendon, Missionary Camp Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. G. West and Bethel Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.S. Sanders.

It was on December 26, 1951 that she was united in Holy Matrimony to James Andrew Maxey. Jewel was employed with AMT Senior Citizen from July 1982 thru 2010.

Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James Andrew Maxey; her oldest daughter, Sarah; sisters, Alice Martin, Iola Davis and Dora Womack; brothers, Walter and Henry Smith; and daughter-in-law Rochelle Maxey.

Survivors include two daughters, Dora J. Maxey of Houston and Leola (Jennifer) Maxey of Jarrell, TX; eleven sons, James (Sandra) Maxey of Navasota, Albert Maxey of Kinston, North Carolina, Ebba Maxey of College Station, Lawrence (Brenda) Maxey of Houston, Anthony (Veronica) Maxey of Hutto, John (Lucrecia) Maxey of Yuma, Arizona, Paul (Terri) Maxey of Glen Hieghts, TX, Marion Maxey of Navasota, Patrick Maxey of Denver, Colorado, Michael (Brandi) Maxey of Houston and Lyman Terry Maxey of Cawthon; special family member, Jerry Moore; 26 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; siblings, Clara (Henry) Melms of Navasota, Joyce Cabrera of Killeen, Loyce (Rev. Laban) Kimble of LaMarque, Laverne Brooks of College Station and Frank Smith; sisters-in-law, Ruby Smith and Ollie Mae Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and dear friends.
