VELA MAE (HOLSENBECK) BECKER 1942 – 2023

 Mrs. Vela Mae (Holsenbeck) Becker, 80, of Navasota, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. Visitation was held Wednesday, September 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Chapel, 402 East Blackshear, Navasota, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1530 E. Washington, Navasota, with Reverend Matthias Dinger officiating. Interment followed in Oakland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Vela Mae was born on October 5, 1942, in Brownfield, Texas, to Opal (Hollingsworth) and Alfred Taylor Holsenbeck. She spent the majority of her life in Navasota while raising her three children. She retired from the Texas Department Criminal Justice system. Vela Mae volunteered for Vacation Bible School and the Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, making clothing for her grandchildren, even the small designs for doll clothes. She also enjoyed quilting and completed several quilts for her children and grandchildren to enjoy. Vela Mae enjoyed baking and making sweet treats for her family gatherings. But most of all, Vela loved her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; she truly flourished when she was able to visit with them all.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather John H. Guynes; sisters, Marcene Crunk, Fayrene Hendricks, and Bertha Petunia Tyson; a brother, John H. Guynes, JR; and a stepdaughter, Donna (Becker) and husband, Ronald Busse.

Vela Mae is survived by her husband Victor Becker of Navasota; son, Michael Hodgson and wife, Lilliana Guajardo of El Paso; daughters, Laura Valadez of Lone Star ,Tara Fase of Houston; her bonus family of Robin and husband, Jerry Wenzel of Navasota, Kimberly and husband, Arthur Striblin of Huntsville, Elena Matticks of Huntsville; Jesse and wife, Suzie Becker of Navasota; her brother, Odis Ray Holsenbeck and wife, Frances, of Brownwood; aunts and uncles, Pearl Kemp of Andrews, Alvin and Clara Hollingsworth of Lubbock, and Cecil Hollingsworth of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Blake Busse, Brandon Busse, Brian Busse, Phillip Wenzel, Noah Wenzel, and Matthew Wenzel.
