Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, dating back to 1865. The Grimes County 19th of June Association is the longest running celebration of Juneteenth in Grimes County. The celebration experienced changes due to COVID-19 but the 80th annual parade continued, and the celebration of freedom filled the streets of Anderson.
