For their October meeting, Richards Civic Club featured Mason Conely, Wildlife Biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife. Conely serves Leon, Grimes and Madison counties, taking in a range of studies from wildlife development to soil conservation studies.

I know the big craft stores already have Christmas items out, but I was a bit shocked that our own Walmart also had decorations and trees. However, they did not have windshield wiper fluid, which was what I needed.
Read moreThe WHCVFD had a good first Saturday on Oct. 2. Very little food was left when we shut down thanks to all our dedicated customers. It takes many volunteers to pull this fundraiser off and it is amazing how this group comes together as a team. As a resident of White Hall, I am very thankful for this group!

Read moreMovie night at Evergreen Baptist Church Thursday, Sept. 30, was well attended. The movie was “Beautifully Broken.” It was about a refugee’s escape, a prisoner’s promise and a daughter’s painful secret converging in a true story of hope. Pizza, popcorn and drinks were served. An offering was collected to help children in Africa. A good sum of money was raised. God bless all that assisted.
Read moreEach month 4-H kids spend time learning various skills, identifying local agriculture, and working on projects for upcoming competitions. Richards 4-H students are no stranger to these meetings, and this month they spent time learning about pumpkins and all things squash. Mandi Wrobleski leads the group and usually teaches subjects such as goat tying, horsemanship, and pecans. But as with any great fall season, pumpkins steal the show. Instead of her usual topics-4-H attendees learned new terms for pumpkins such as Warty Goblin, Jack be Little, and Fairy Tale for pumpkin types.
