There was record attendance at Evergreen Baptist Church Sunday morning, Nov. 21. There were 125 people present. The church had a wonderful service. The church youth sang, and Ava Reynolds was baptized. The pastor of the church brought a wonderful message as well. Following the service there was a Thanksgiving meal that was enjoyed by all. There were several that took home food for a meal to be enjoyed later. I was one of those. The turkey, ham, dressing, desserts and more were good.

Read moreThe pulpit at Evergreen Baptist Church was filled by Rev. Matt Carey of Madisonville, Sunday, Nov. 14. He was accompanied by his wife Peggy. They both used to live in the Keith community. His message was from Mark 10, and was the story of Blind Bartimaeus, who Jesus healed. The sermon was wonderful. The church pastor, Rev. Jeff Morgan and his family were out of town. He will return next week.

Read moreSolanum elaeagnifolium, trompillo, is a perennial seen in Grimes County for most of the year. It grows 1 to 3 feet tall on a prickly stem. Stem and alternate leaves, 2 to 4 inches long with wavy edges, are covered with fine silvery hairs. Another name for trompillo is silverleaf nightshade. It’s in the Solanaceae, nightshade family.

Everything is set for Saturday, Dec. 18, starting with Breakfast with Santa at the Civic Center, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Pancake Breakfast, then a Gingerbread House Contest also at the Civic Center at 10:30 a.m. Next is the Bedias Christmas Parade starting at 6 p.m., followed by Cookies with Santa back at the Civic Center at 7 p.m. Please go to the Civic Club Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BediasCivicClubAssoc, for all the updates.
Read moreThe annual Bruce Family Reunion was held at the Keith Community Center Sunday, Nov. 7, with a good number of family members attending. Approximately 40 attended. It is estimated this is the 33rd family reunion and is the reunion of the descendants of Melva and Edna Bruce Family. The only one of their children still living is Cora Bruce Lucan. The family began gathering around 11 a.m. and stayed until 3 p.m. All had a wonderful time and are making plans to return next year.
