Ava Pointer has continued her basketball career at East Texas Baptist University.
The Iola High School graduate is a freshman on the women's developmental team, whose roster has 12. The team played six games in the fall and four in January, according to the online schedule, and the last game is scheduled for Tuesday.
Pointer was placed on the developmental team because she said, "I didn't decide I wanted to play until right before I moved in."
A teammate talked her into pursuing college basketball. "I absolutely love it now," she said.
The Iola Lady Bulldogs advance to the 2A Bi-District playoffs against Big Sandy. Iola finished fourth in District 26-2A. The Anderson-Shiro Junior High Lady Owls A Team won the championship in the District 23-3A basketball tournament. Iola’s Wesley Alexander signed his National Letter of Intent Feb. 2, to continue his education and football playing career at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. Navasota running back Deontray Scott had a breakout senior season rushing for 1,153 yards on 128 carries and 17 touchdowns. He also caught 10 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Scott signed his National Letter of Intent Feb. 2, to continue his education and football career at Blinn Junior College.Read more
Navasota finishes District 25-4A play in first place alongside the Royal Lady Falcons, who were scheduled to play Sealy Tuesday for their final game of district.
A win by Royal will likely force a matchup between the Lady Rattlers and Lady Falcons vying for the No. 1 seed in district.
