Whitehall News

Our world traveler, Mike Kurtin, returned home from his winter excursion to Poland last week. He visited family and friends in Gdansk, Krakow, Warsaw and Lublin. He especially enjoyed his class reunion in Lublin, where he attended the Catholic University many years ago. Meeting with old friends and professors is always a highlight of his trip. The weather was cold and snowy and he was ready for some warmer weather here in Texas. Wasn’t he surprised when he landed in Houston? BRRRR!

•The WHCVFD had another good first Saturday fundraiser. This month, the customers seemed to all be in good spirits. I sure am glad, since I seemed to have forgotten names at the most inopportune times. Thanks for good humor, since I mistakenly called Szymczak a Sechelski. Mr. Tommy, I will try to remember next time. There was a couple who actually were barbecue cook-off judges and another that told me she was the grave digger. Can you imagine my facial expression on that one? The VFD appreciates all the people who make the effort to come and support the fire department. It is these people who help make Whitehall the community it is.

•The following is the Lynn Grove UMC March schedule: no church service March 17; 9 a.m. service March 24; and 9 a.m. service March 31. There will be Saturday Evening Worship at 5 p.m. March 16. A potluck meal will be served after the service. Bring a favorite dish to share, if able, and invite a neighbor, friend or family to attend with you.

•Thank you to Sharon and Vincent for checking on me the other night. Hopefully, Vincent is feeling better.

•Concrete? Is there really concrete at the Texas Pickers? I guess I need to take a drive and check it out.

•Spring break is this week and I totally forgot about it. So far, I do not have any scheduled Gingi hotel reservations, but I do have one kiddo obligation, I think. Hopefully, there will be some good weather days.

•Be sure you add the April 27 Whitehall Community Center fundraiser to your calendar. There will be cars, motorcycles, barbecue, live music, vendors, bucket raffles and much more.

•Our sick and homebound friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Betty Nigliazzo, Carole Robison, Mary Bauer, Lillian Shimshack, Albin Finke, Charles Waters, Leonard Serres, Richard Shimshack, Margaret Finke, Lois Bell, Jerri Ripper and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add them to your list also. I would like to add Rickey Bin-ford and his mother, Doris, as well as Charles and Carolyn Wellmann to the prayer list. Thank you.
