Anna Louise Swonke, 89, of Navasota, formerly of Plantersville, died Wednesday morning at Golden Creek Health and Rehab in Navasota.

Due to recent concerns surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, the family will have a private funeral service at St. Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville and the rite of committal will be in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery.

Anna was born Thursday, January 1, 1931, in Snook, Texas to Frank and Annie Vajdak Smotek. A resident of Plantersville since 1982, she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Society as well as the Navasota Garden Club and V.F.W. Post 4006 Ladies Auxiliary.

Anna loved to travel to the casinos in Louisiana, working in her garden playing dominoes and her home in the country. Anna was a wonderful cook and was all ways ready to try new recipes and treasured her czech traditions by making kolaches and strudels. Anna was a devoted daughter for 89 years, aunt for 76 years, wife to Johnnie Hozak for 27 years and to Herb for 25 years, mother for 71 years, mother-in-law for 45 years, grandmother for 40 years and great grandmother for 17 years. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Johnnie Hozak and second husband, Herb Swonke; brothers, Walter, Albert, Edmund, Willie and Frank Smotek and sisters Olga Roussert and Lillian Ottmere.

Survivors include her sons, Dennis Ray Hozak and wife Brenda of Rowlett and Alan Dale Hozak and wife Becky of Wallis; step-sons, Michael Swonke of Denton, Tony Swonke of Tomball and Carlos Swonke and wife Liza Valenzuela of Austin; brothers, Johnny Smotek of Houston and Jerry Smotek of Madisonville; sisters, Margie Faust of Somerville and Jeannette Zan of Bryan; Grandchildren, Karey Reber, Katie Parr, Justin Autry-Hozak, Jenna Rank, Brandon Hozak, Evan Swonke, Ellie Ann Swonke, Emiley Swonke, Andrew Swonke and Olivia Swonke; great grandchildren, Hannah and Kendra Reber, Chase Parr, Everly Rank, Isla Swonke, Emily Swonke, Elly Swonke and Jacob Alvarado; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
