Navasota Fire Chief Jason Katkoski said contractors were working on a portion of the roof that was damaged from the snow load. While using cutting torches to cut away some of the metal on the roof, the insulation ignited. Katkoski said the fire was extinguished quickly.

It was 30 years ago that historic-minded community members saved the former Masonic Lodge at 11335 Lodge Lane from becoming a “practice burn” for the local volunteer fire department. While some of those dedicated folks have died or no longer live in the community, many are still involved, and those who’ve joined them, are no less committed.
