Iola adopts tax-rate

IOLA – Iola Council members approved a new tax-rate and budget for 2022-2023. Council members adopted a tax-rate of 14-cents (0.142497) per $100. Iola Mayor Christina Stover said 3-cents of the taxrate is for an Interest and Sinking fund for the Waste Water Treatment Plant debt rate. This is the first time the WWTP is being factored into the tax-rate.

The Anderson-Shiro Owls have new royalty in the nest as the 2022 Homecoming King Brant Werner and Queen Josey Imhoff were crowned at halftime Friday, Sept. 16. The Anderson- Shiro Owls defeated Evadale Rebels 41-6.

Organizations gather to honor and remember

Approximately three dozen “patriots” gathered Friday, Sept. 16, at the Grimes County Justice and Business Center to honor the nation’s veterans and Constitution. Along with recognizing the relocation of Grimes County’s World War I Memorial, the ceremonies launched Constitution Week, Sept. 1723, and paid tribute to POW/ MIA Remembrance Day.
